Solar System Simulation
Welcome to the Solar System Simulation!
To explore the galaxy, use these controls:
- Use arrow keys to pan the camera
- Press + (plus) to zoom in, - (minus) to zoom out
- Click on a planet to have the camera follow it
- To stop following a planet, click on empty space
- Press e to follow the Earth
- Toggle the orbit line display with o
- Toggle the retrograde lines with r
- Toggle the planet labels with l
- Use the buttons in the bottom-left corner to switch between world models
- Press 0 (zero) to reset the camera
Newtonian Model
The Newtonian Model includes the following features:
- Real-world accurate values, with force/velocity statistics and a ruler for scale
- The sun and the eight largest planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus,
Neptune
- The Moon, Astroid Belt, and Kupier Belt
- Other notable planets: Ceres, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, Eris
- Alpha Centauri A, the second-closest star visible to Earth. You'll need to zoom out far to see
it!
Ptolemy Model
The Ptolemy Model includes the following features:
- The planets known at the time: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn
- Planets orbiting the center of the universe with epicycles
- Fixed stars circling the galaxy beyond Saturn
